Clinical Relevance
Respiratory tract infections are caused by many viral and bacterial pathogens and they are the second most common cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide. H1N1 influenza widely known as “Swine Flu” is a subtype of influenza A virus, a communicable viral illness causing upper and in some cases lower respiratory tract infections in its host. In the past ten years, H3N2 has tended to dominate in prevalence over H1N1, H1N2, and influenza B.
