NucleoDx® Tris-Borate-EDTA (TBE) buffer, is a commonly employed solution in molecular biology and biochemistry laboratories. The composition of TBE buffer typically includes Tris, which helps maintain a stable pH, Borate ions that facilitate nucleic acid migration, and EDTA, which chelates divalent cations to protect nucleic acids from degradation. Its ability to provide stable and consistent ionic conditions makes it an essential component in many nucleic acid-based experiments and research endeavours. The buffer pH is approximately 8.3 at room temperature.
TBE buffer is primarily used for DNA and RNA electrophoresis. It provides the necessary ions and pH conditions for the separation and analysis of nucleic acids based on their size and charge. TBE buffer is commonly used as the running buffer in agarose gel electrophoresis, allowing researchers to visualise and analyse DNA and RNA fragments. It is utilised in various applications, including DNA fragment analysis, nucleic acid purification, DNA sequencing, and genotyping.
